Most people reading this article will be looking for the biggest music festivals in Spain which feature some of the world’s most famous artists and bands. A wide range of musical genres can be encompassed in this section ranging from rock and electronic dance music to pop, hip-hop and more. Part 1 is where you’ll find these blockbuster music events which attract the largest number of concert-goers.
In total there are more than 900 music festivals in Spain with the vast majority of these events not attracting huge crowds. Part 2 of the article describes some of these smaller music festivals in Spain which still attract big crowds and well-known stars from around the world.
And finally, in Part 3 of the article we’ve moved away from the most popular genres amongst young people to focus on other types of music. For the want of a better title, this section is simply be referred to as Cultural Music Festivals in Spain. These wide ranging events include classical, jazz, flamenco and other types of world music.

Medusa Sunbeach Festival in Cullera

Location: Villarrobledo – Albacete (Castilla-La Mancha)
The Viña Rock festival is an epic annual rock and metal music festival held every May in the town of Villarrobledo in the town of Villarrobledo (Albacete). Since starting in 1996, it has grown into one of the biggest rock festivals in the country, spanning three days and featuring over 100 bands across five stages. Viña Rock attracts around 30,000 fans each year eager to experience its mix of Spanish, Latin American and international acts covering rock, metal, punk, ska, hardcore and indie genres.
Headliners over the years have included major names like Guns N’ Roses, Linkin Park, Slipknot and Green Day. The event is regarded as an excellent platform for emerging Spanish language bands to present themselves to the wider music world.
Rototom Sunsplash Reggae Festival
Location: Benicàssim – Castellón (Valencia)
Rototom Sunsplash is a large European reggae festival that was founded in 1994 in Gaio di Spilimbergo, Italy and has been held in Benicàssim, Valencia since 2010. The festival attracts thousands of fans from all over the world and features a cultural and musical program that lasts for up to ten days. Festival Cruïlla in Barcelona

The Festival Cruïlla is a popular annual music festival held over 3-days in Barcelona every summer. It features an eclectic lineup of Spanish and international artists spanning pop, rock, electronic, hip hop and world music genres. The festival attracts over 50,000 attendees who flock to the Parc del Fòrum venue to enjoy the concerts spread across five stages, including the main Cruïlla Stage which hosts the headline acts.
As well as its musical offering, the festival has a circus theme and offers entertainment like acrobatic shows, theatre and street performers. Established in 2010, Festival Cruïlla has quickly become a highlight of Barcelona’s summer festival calendar, combining big-name artists like Gorillaz, Bruno Mars and The Black Keys with emerging Spanish language talents in a lively urban setting.
Barcelona Beach Festival | BBF
The BBF (Barcelona Beach Festival) is an annual electronic music festival which has previously been held in Sant Adrià del Besòs which is 6km along the coast to the north of Barcelona The festival, which has been taking place since 2014, features top electronic music artists and DJs, with performances on two stages overlooking the sea and two enormous dance floors on the beach. The event has attracted world-renowned artists such as David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, DJ Snake and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike.
However, the festival did not take place in 2023 due to the refusal of the City Council of Sant Adrià de Besòs to grant the necessary licenses and the impossibility of finding another location with the ideal conditions to hold the festival within a workable timeframe. The organizers have expressed their commitment to finding a new location for the festival and have announced plans to resume the event in 2024.

Part 2: Smaller Music Festivals in Spain
Granada Sound Festival
Location: Cortijo del Conde (Granada)
The Granada Sound Festival is an annual music festival held in the Cortijo del Conde on the outskirts of Granada. BIGSOUND Festival in València
Location: City of Arts and Sciences (València)
BIGSOUND Festival is an annual 3-day urban music festival held in June at the City of Arts and Sciences in València. It was first held in 2012 and showcases some of the top Spanish and international talents in hip hop, rap, reggaeton, trap and Latin pop. The festival features dozens of performances across four different stages, as well as DJ sets, breakdancing competitions, graffiti art battles and music industry panels.
With over 50,000 attendees, BIGSOUND has become one of the largest celebrations of urban culture and music in Europe. The festival provides a high-energy experience focused on the latest sounds and artists within Spain’s hip hop scene.

BIME Live is a major indoor music festival held in the autumn in Bilbao in northern Spain. Taking place over two days every October/November, the festival features live performances by prominent Spanish and international pop, rock, hip hop and electronic artists. BIME Live spans multiple stages set up at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre near the iconic Guggenheim Museum. In addition to concerts, BIME offers music industry talks, film screenings, art exhibits and a vinyl market.
The festival brings over 20,000 music fans to Bilbao to discover new talent and appreciate a diverse lineup of established acts in an energetic setting. Since starting in 2006, BIME Live has become a flagship live music event in the Basque Country.
Cap Roig Festival
Location: Calella de Palafrugell (Catalonia)
The Cap Roig Festival is an annual summer music festival held in the coastal town of Calella de Palafrugell on Spain’s Costa Brava near Girona. The festival takes place in July in the beautiful gardens of the historic Cap Roig castle and features live performances by top Spanish and international pop, rock, jazz and classical music artists.
Headline performers in 2023 included Rod Stewart, Simply Red and david Bisbal. Stages are set up outdoors allowing attendees to enjoy the concerts under the stars with the Mediterranean Sea as a backdrop. The idyllic setting and acclaimed lineup of musical acts make the Cap Roig Festival one of the premier summer musical events in Catalonia.
ALMA Festival Jardins de Pedralbes
Location: Poble Espanyol (Barcelona)
This is an open-air summer music festival that has been held for 10 editions at the Palau Reial de Pedralbes. In 2023 the festival changed its name to Alma – Festival Jardins de Pedralbes and relocated to Barcelona’s Poble Espanyol. The festival takes place over 15 days and features performances by renowned Spanish and international pop, electronic, jazz and world music artists. Past performers have included Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, Jamiroquai, Diana Krall and Jorge Drexler. The move to Poble Espanyol proved a great success with 48,000 attendees during the 2023 edition of the event.
Canet Rock Festival
Location: Canet de Mar (Catalonia)
The Canet Rock Festival was first held back in 1975 in the town of Canet de Mar which lies 40km along the coast to the north of Barcelona. After four editions of the event it disappeared from Catalonia’s festival calendar until it reappeared between 2014 and 2017. The event returned once again in 2022 with 25,000 people enjoying non-stop music for 12 hours.

The Boombastic Festival is an electronic dance music festival held annually in over the summer months across various cities in Spain. The event started in 2013 and brings some of the top DJs and EDM artists in house, techno, trance and bass music to stages in Asturias, Madrid, Alicante, the Canary Islands, the Costa del Sol and more.
As well as the concerts, Boombastic offers themed stage designs, light shows, beach parties, camping and a vibrant, high-energy atmosphere for music fans. Boombastic travels to different locations each summer and has become a premier EDM event on the summer music festivals calendar in Spain.
Ebrovisión Festival in Miranda de Ebro
Location: Miranda de Ebro – Burgos (Castilla y León)
The Ebrovisión Festival is an annual music festival held in September in the town of Miranda de Ebro in the Castilla y León region of central Spain. The festival features a lively lineup of Spanish and international pop and rock artists performing on stages set up along the banks of the Ebro River that runs through the town.
Major national acts like Amaral, Coque Malla and Bunbury have performed at Ebrovisión alongside up-and-coming indie bands. The festival brings a youthful energy and celebratory atmosphere to the streets of Miranda de Ebro for three days and nights of concerts.
Extremusika Festival in Cáceres
Location: Cáceres (Extremadura)
Extremusika is an annual music festival held in the city of Cáceres in the Extremadura region of western Spain. The 3-day festival takes place in the autumn and features live performances from over 50 indie, rock, pop, hip hop and world music artists across four stages. National and international acts are represented, along with many local Extremaduran bands. The festival aims to promote Extremadura’s cultural richness and diversity through music. Vive Latino España
Vive Latino is a music festival that originated in Mexico and has become a reference point for Ibero-American music. The festival made its debut in Zaragoza in 2022 featuring performances from 35 artists, including prominent Spanish and Latin American bands. It is held at the former Expo site to the north-west of the city centre. The festival is known for its diverse alternative music genres, initially focusing on rock but has since expanded to include electronic music and regional Mexican music.
Icónica Fest in Sevilla
Location: Plaza de España (Seville)
Icónica Fest is a relative newcomer to the Andalusian music scene with the 2023 event only the 3rd time it has been staged. The concerts are held in the centre of Seville’s magnificent Plaza de España and include performances by some well-known Spanish and international bands. Take That headline the Icónica Fest in 2024. In addition to the music, Icónica Fest offers food stalls and a dazzling light show projected onto the façade of the plaza at night.
Taking place at the at the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo every May, the Interstelar festival is one of the musical events of the year in Seville. Since its first edition in 2016, the event has attracted some well-known artists including Lori Meyers, Love of Lesbian, Sidonie, Viva Sueca and Iván Ferreiro among others. The event also includes many extra activities related to the world of music, art and technology.
Ouren Sound Fest Festival
Location: Benposta – Ourense (Galicia)
The Ouren Sound Fest is a summer festival which takes place in the rural town of Benposta to the south of Ourense in north-west Spain. This scenic location hosts a diverse lineup of mainly Spanish artists across various genres, including indie rock, hip hop and pop. The 2003 event included performances by Andrés Calamaro, Baiuca, Carlangas, Shinova and Depedro. Festival Jardins Terramar in Sitges

This music festival was first held in the coastal town of Sitges to the south of Barcelona in 2017. It takes place at numerous outdoor venues and nightclubs located close to the resort’s promenade and harbour. The event attracts a diverse mix of performers which included Malú, Niña Pastori, Kraftwerk, Manuel Turizo and Tom Jones at the 2023 edition. The festival has rapidly established itself as a major fixture of the summer music calendar in Catalonia.
Vida Festival in Vilanova i la Geltrú

The Vida Festival is an annual music and arts festival held in Vilanova i la Geltrú to the south-west of Barcelona. The event is staged at La Daurada Beach Club during the day and La Masia d’en Cabanyes in the evening with a range of performers from different musical genres. The 2023 edition saw an exciting selection of young artists from Spain as well as international musicians such as Aurora, Suede, Jungle, Julieta Venegas and Jorge Drexler. Som de Mar Festival
Location: Lloret de Mar (Catalonia)
The Som de Mar Festival is an annual music festival held in the coastal town of Lloret de Mar on Spain’s Costa Brava. Taking place for 5 days in late August, the festival features live performances by Spanish and international pop, rock and folk music artists. Concerts are held outdoors in the beautiful Santa Clotilde Gardens, located between two beaches. The festival generates a lively, party atmosphere in an idyllic Mediterranean setting which has made Som de Mar a popular event on the Costa Brava’s calendar of summer music festivals.
Starlite Occident Festival

Location: Marbella (Andalucía)
Starlite Occident is boutique music festival held in in the scenic grounds of the Nagüeles quarry just outside Marbella on the Costa del Sol. It lasts for two months every summer and has attracted some well-known headline performers over the years including Elton John, Enrique Iglesias, Ricky Martin and Christina Aguilera. Starlite Occident offers a rich blend of music, culture and gastronomy, with concerts, DJ sets, gourmet dining and after-parties. One highlight of the festival is the Starlite Gala charity event which is hosted by Malaga-born Antonio Banderas.
Summerfest Cerdanya Festival
Location: Puigcerdà – Girona (Catalonia)
Summerfest Cerdanya is a music festival held in the town of Puigcerdà which lies in the Catalan Pyrenees close to the French border. The festival runs for 9 days in August and features performances by popular Spanish and international artists. Concerts take place outdoors at the 17th century Church of Nostra Senyora dels Àngels. Granada International Music and Dance Festival
The Granada International Music and Dance Festival is a five-week multidisciplinary arts festival held annually in Granada. Established in 1952, it showcases music, dance and theatre performances by top artists and companies from around the world. The festival takes place at historic venues across Granada such as the Alhambra Palace and Generalife Gardens. Music performances span genres from classical, jazz and flamenco to pop and rock.

Festival de Jazz in Vitoria-Gasteiz

Festival Grec de Barcelona

The Grec Festival is a major performing arts festival which was established in 1976 and takes place every summer at an open-air theatre in Barcelona. Events include theatre, dance, music and circus events by national and international performers at the Teatre Grec on Montjuic hill. Whilst the main performances take place at the Teatre Grec there are other events at venues and public spaces across the city over the summer months.

Festival Les Nits de Barcelona
Dates: late-June to late-July
Location: Palau de Pedralbes (Barcelona)
Les Nits de Barcelona is a summer music festival held in the Palau de Pedralbes gardens in Barcelona for a month beginning in the last week of June. The first half of the festival hosts concerts in the garden area with a capacity for 800 spectators whilst he second half features concerts for 2,400 attendees in the larger auditorium located opposite the Palau.
Headline artists at the 2023 event included Sebastián Yatra, Tom Odell, Gloria Trevi and David Bisbal. In addition to music, the festival offers food stalls and visual arts displays.
