Ferries to Spain
If you'd like to travel directly to
Spain by Ferry
from the UK you now have a choice of routes with
Brittany Ferries. They continue to offer their popular sailings to Santander
from both Plymouth and Portsmouth and have taken over P&O's route from
Portsmouth to Bilbao.
Their new Portsmouth-Bilbao route operates twice weekly starting in March 2011.
Brittany Ferries' long established services from both Plymouth and
Portsmouth to Santander sail twice a week, three times a week in high season. On-board the 'Pont Aven' accommodation is
compulsory and ranges from a reclining seat to a deluxe cabin. The journey time
is approximately 18 hours.
P&O Ferries
used to operate a Portsmouth to Bilbao service on the 'Pride of Bilbao' with crossings
taking up to 35 hours depending on conditions. This service
was terminated. in September 2010.
Ferries to Spain via France
If you are taking your own car and want to enjoy your drive to and from
Spain, there are plenty of ferries operating between the UK and France:

An interesting option is to get yourselves to Saint Nazaire in Brittany then
take a ferry to Gijon in Asturias. Interesting alternative for discovering
northern Spain.

Crossings between Dover-Calais, Newhaven-Dieppe.
P&O Portsmouth,
also operate crossings from Portsmouth to Le Havre and Cherbourg.

Eurotunnel
The fastest way of crossing the Channel by car is via the Channel Tunnel from
Folkestone to Calais/Coquelles with
Eurotunnel. The journey
takes just 40mins including boarding and disembarking.
