The Alarcon Parador is located in Alarcon, a pretty medieval village 187 km
from Madrid on the road to Valencia. It is housed in an 8th century medieval
castle originally built by the Muslims, on a hilltop overlooking the river Jucar.
The main tower 'Torre del Homenaje' offers views of the walls built to protect
the village from siege. Recent refurbishment of this Parador means that you can
stay in a 4 star hotel with all the expected amenities whilst enjoying the
atmosphere of this historical building. It also houses an interesting art
collection by artists such as Tapies, Redondela and Sempre.
Its restaurant gives guests the opportunity to sample some local dishes such
as 'Morteruelos' (game mince), 'Cordero en caldereta' (lamb stew) and sweet
almond sauces.
The village of Alarcon is very small with narrow streets, a main village
square and many churches. It tends to be very quiet but does have some life at
weekends when Madrileños come to escape the city.
As this is a very popular Parador visitors are well advised to book ahead.
