Barcelona Yacht Charter
Barcelona has developed into one of Europe’s leading ports for those people
looking to charter yachts and explore the Mediterranean coastline.
All types of yacht charter can now be readily found in Barcelona – from
‘bareboat’ charters to crewed yachts (either single hulled or catamarans) or
from luxury yachts to small flotillas sailing together. Whatever your yachting
requirements, there will be something in Barcelona to fulfil your needs.
Port Olímpic is the stylish marina that is at the centre of Barcelona’s
yachting activity. Between the beaches of Icaria and Barceloneta, the
entertainment and leisure area was originally built in 1988 in preparation for
the 1992 Olympic Games and it is as busy in the evenings – with its stylish
bars, restaurants and clubs – as it is during the day. With its impressive giant
bronze whale greeting you as you enter the port, and sitting elegantly under the
twin skyscrapers of the Hotel Arts Barcelona and the Mapfre Tower, the 740 berth
marina is a fabulous place to begin your yacht charter vacation.
When you decide to charter a yacht there are many possibilities for you to
select from. If, for example, you are an experienced yachtsman, you will be able
to skipper your own bareboat monohull or catamaran, choosing from a wide
selection of some of the best-known names in yachts such as Benetau, Dufour,
Hunter, Catalina and many, many more.
If, however, you are keen to learn the skills of boatsmanship in some of the
best sailing areas in the world, then many of the charter companies are able to
offer expert guidance and instruction. You can include a skipper and an ASA
Sailing Instructor (or perhaps one person who is capable of doing both jobs) and
some companies even offer the possibility of hiring a chef for your voyage. For
a truly luxurious experience, some companies can provide completely crewed
yachts to pamper you around the Mediterranean.
Additionally, some charter companies organise week long adventures where a
group of boats travel from destination to destination in a small flotilla and
many give you the option of taking a one-way charter, leaving your yacht perhaps
in Majorca or Valencia. More recently, growing numbers of businesses have
organised yachting excursions from Barcelona for a variety of purposes.
Beginning a charter in Barcelona not only gives you the opportunity of
exploring the city itself but it is an ideal port from which to explore the
north Mediterranean coast – either to the south-eastern Spanish side or
northwards towards France and Italy. A charter across to the Balearic Islands is
also an enticing prospect for many people.
