Spain Private Tour ... Itinerary 11
Malaga - Granada - Cordoba - Seville - Ronda -
Malaga. So Many people try to "do Spain" in far too short a time. This
trip with Kilty from New York was a fine example of how to dedicate time
to Andalucia.
In total she spent 8 nights on an itinerary which
began and ended at Malaga airport with 1 night spent in Granada, 2
nights in Cordoba, 3 nights in Seville, 1 night in Ronda and 1 night in
Malaga.
Don't underestimate how long you can spend in Andalucia, there
is so much to see. Even after this trip of 8 nights Kilty didn't
have time to see more of Granada or Ronda where she only managed a night
in each place and there was no time to visit any coastal locations.
Granada, Seville, Cordoba and Ronda are in my opinion the essential
sights of Andalucia, but if you've got the time there is no problem
spending a busy fortnight touring around.
Here's her itinerary ... Kilty flew into Madrid from New York JFK and
transferred to her internal flight to Malaga on Tuesday 9th November. We
met in the airport and drove across to Granada which was lying at this time of
year below the snow capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada mountains. She stayed at
the beautiful Hotel Palacio de Santa Paula. On the Wednesday morning
Kilty visited the magnificent Alhambra Palace ... the "Jewel of Moorish Spain".
After lunch we met at the hotel and drove across the province of Jaén to Cordoba
via the millions of olive trees that grow in the region arriving shortly before
sunset at the Hotel Amistad, Cordoba. Thursday was a full day in
Cordoba beginning with the Mezquita (Great Mosque) and continuing with the
Alcazár and the Jewish Quarter. In the evening Kilty went to the flamenco
performance which takes place daily at Tablao Cardenal next to the tourist
information office.
On Friday morning we headed out of Cordoba to the Roman town of Carmona
where we stopped for a break at the fabulous Parador. After admiring the views
we continued on into Seville which would be the base for the weekend. There's no
shortage of things to see in Seville so Kilty's decision to spend 3 nights here
was a very wise one. Her chosen hotel was the Hotel Becquer which offers
excellent accessibility to all the main attractions.
We
met again on Monday morning and made an early departure from Seville
after a memorable weekend packed with sightseeing. we headed south to Jerez then
went inland to Arcos de la Frontera, possibly the most famous of the 'Pueblos
Blancos' then continued cross country to the beautiful village of Grazalema
before arriving in Ronda where the Parador would be our base for the night.
Ronda is the quaintest of towns up in the mountains high above the Costa del
Sol. So many people manage just a few hours here yet it merits much longer. We
spent Tuesday morning here then departed after lunch taking the
mountainous route down to the coast and east to Malaga where Kilty would have a
few hours to take a look at the city and briefly visit the Picasso Museum.
On the following morning, Wednesday 17th November, she took an early morning
transfer to the airport for flight a to Madrid and connection to JFK.
