Spain Private Tour ... Itinerary 4
Excursions from Seville to Jerez and Cordoba. Transfer to Granada.
Ellen and James flew into Madrid from San Francisco. After a couple of days
in the capital they took the high speed AVE train link from Madrid's Atocha
Station to Seville.
This tour was more a series of excursions than a continuous tour as Seville
was used as a base for trips to Jerez and Cordoba before moving on to Granada.
We met on a Thursday morning in June at 9.30am in the reception of the Alfonso
XIII hotel and headed south to the world sherry capital of Jerez de la Frontera.
Lunchtime temperature was 40ºC. First of all we collected our tickets at the
Royal School of Equestrian Art for the world famous show called "Those Amazing
Dancing Andalusian Horses" which is an equestrian ballet, featuring choreography
adapted from the training exercises of classical dressage and doma vaquera, with
traditional Spanish music and costumes which date back to the 18th century.
After the show we headed over to the coast at Sanlucar which is famous all
over Spain for its fabulous seafood. And what a spot to dine, overlooking the
National Park of Doñana. After lunch we left Sanlucar and headed inland to the
amazing fortified town of Arcos de la Frontera where we had a stroll around
before heading back to the hotel in Seville with its extremely inviting swimming
pool.
Ellen and James spent Friday sightseeing in Seville and enjoyed a visit to a
flamenco performance at Los Gallos.
On
the Saturday we did a full day excursion from Seville to Cordoba beginning at
8.30am. It had been so hot on Thursday that we decided to start earlier and
finish earlier to avoid some of the afternoon heat.
Naturally our first stop was the Mezquita, the greatest mosque
built by the Moors in Spain. From here Ellen and James visited the beautiful
gardens of the Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos. That's enough for now so time
for lunch in a typical Cordoba tapas restaurant.
After lunch we took a stroll around the Judería (Jewish Quarter) and visited one
of only three synagogues remaining in Spain. Then back to the car and off to
that swimming pool again at the Alfonso XIII.
Sunday was another day of sightseeing and flamenco in Seville then on Monday
morning we met again at the hotel for a transfer to the Parador of Granada where
Ellen and James would be staying for the next few days whilst attending
performances at the Granada International Festival of Music and Dance. More Information
