Spain Private Tour ... Itinerary 2

Lisbon - Fatima - Seville - Costa del Sol - Granada - Madrid.

This private tour of Spain in November 2002 was for Minnetta Hooker, a 70 year old lady travelling alone from Indiana.

On the Sunday morning of Day 1 we met at Minnetta's Lisbon city centre hotel and headed north to the world famous Catholic shrine at Fatima.

From here we took a scenic drive around some of Portugal's pretty rural villages and headed over to Nazaré on the coast for lunch returning to Lisbon in the late afternoon.

On Day 2 we packed our bags and headed south out of Lisbon on the A2 motorway until we reached the exit for Beja. Here we headed cross country crossing into Spain in the mid-afternoon. Continued on a scenic drive through the Sierra de Aracena to Seville which would be our base for the next two nights.

Day 3 was spent sightseeing in Seville including visits to the Cathedral and Alcazar and a walk to the top of the Giralda tower. In the afternoon we visited the Plaza de España travelling by horse and cart.

On Day 4 we followed the road south beyond Jerez and took the beautiful Cadiz coast road visiting Vejer de la Frontera and the scene of the Battle of Trafalgar near Barbate on the way to Gibraltar we stopped for English fish and chips for lunch. That afternoon we continued on to Torremolinos on the Costa del Sol where we stayed that night.

A torrential downpour as we passed Malaga on the morning of Day 5 slowed our progress en route to Granada. We arrived there in time for lunch. Day 6 was a full day in Granada with a private tour of the Alhambra Palace.

On Day 7 we drove up to Madrid and spent the afternoon seeing some of the main sights around Puerta del Sol and the Plaza Mayor.

Day 8 was spent touring the beautiful villages of the Sierra de Guadarrama mountains around Madrid. In the evening we dined at Botins, the oldest restaurant in the world.

On the morning of Day 9 we said our goodbyes and Minnetta took her flight from Madrid back to the USA.

Definition of Driver/Guide

Spain is divided into 17 autonomous regions each of which has a local government. Tour guide licences are granted to a limited number of people in each region which allows them to offer official guided tours of particular monuments within their region. Our drivers are not licensed to give such tours within specific monuments but are at your disposal to provide general information on our destinations. We work closely with the licensed guides in the main cities and can hire their specialised services for any monuments on request.
