Hotel Suecia opened its doors in 1956 in an inauguration
by Price Bertil of Sweden, as a place for cultural exchange between Spain and
Sweden. A hotel that from its beginnings has signified friendship, quality and
international perspective. It is for this reason or perhaps due to its
proximity to the most important Art Centres in Spain, that Ernest Hemingway
chose Hotel Suecia as his home at the end of the 50's, adding to Hotel Suecia's
charming historical atmosphere.
The historical significance of Hotel Suecia is
gently contrasted with the warm avant-garde atmosphere created by the interior
renovations made during 1999 and year 2000. An avantgarde philosophy which is
not only detected in the decoration, but also in the excellent service lavished
on visitors by the staff, the quality of the gastronomical fare offered in the
coffee shop and restaurant Bellman, and the infrastructure of the meeting rooms
for social events and company ceremonies.
The hotel is situated next
to the Círculo de Bellas Artes theatre complex in the city centre just
off Gran Via and about 5 minutes walk from Puerta del Sol.
