The Parador of Ronda was only opened in 1994. It is ideally
located in the city centre next to the Puente Nuevo ("new" bridge
built in 1761) on a high cliff which overlooks the El Tajo gorge
with the Guadelevín river some 130 metres below. Hemingway was a
regular visitor to Ronda. His ficticious Spanish Civil War novel,
For Whom the Bells Toll, recounts a story of villagers being thrown
alive into a gorge based on factual events in Ronda.
The four star hotel offers large rooms which are beautifully
furnished with beautiful views. It has a swimming pool and a highly
recommended restaurant offering typical dishes of the Serranía de
Ronda including stewed partridge, roast kid and rabbit 'a la
rondeña'.
