The age of the budget airline has also attracted city break visitors to Palma which has made the Son Sant Joan airport one of Europe's busiest. The price that has to be paid for mass tourism is the shortage of accommodation during the peak tourist season.

Palma 5 Star Hotels Palacio Ca Sa Galesa This hotel is located in the Gothic quarter of Palma near the cathedral. It has only 12 rooms 7 of which are suites, most of which have whirlpool baths in their luxurious bathrooms. It is the only hotel in the city centre which as a pool, heated in winter and cooled in summer. Hidden behind iron gates this hotel can be difficult to find if you are driving so be sure to get directions before you arrive. This is a gem of a hotel which we are confident to recommend. You should book well in advance.   Grupotel Valparaiso Palace Located high above Palma city in its own park area this first class hotel offers wonderful views over the whole city, the harbour and the surrounding hills. All of the rooms have balconies with views. There are two large outdoor pools with islands in the centre and plenty of space for sunbathing round them. It is only a short taxi ride from the centre of Palma where you can find many bars, restaurants and shops.   Nixe Palace Hotel This luxurious hotel is in a perfect location to enjoy a quiet holiday near the city of Palma. It is situated in Cala Mayor only about 5 minutes by taxi or 15 by bus to the centre of Palma. It has its own private beach which is beautifully kept and never too busy, unlike many of the public beaches. The food is excellent and you can eat breakfast on the terrace whilst enjoying a marvellous view of the sea. It is well worth booking one of the rooms overlooking the sea as the balconies provide a relaxing place to look at the sea.

Palma 4 Star Hotels Saratoga This hotel, located in the centre of Palma, comes highly recommended and is close to the main sights. Many of the rooms have a harbour view and all are a good size with modern furnishings. The breakfast is excellent and has a huge range of food and drinks including bucks fizz. There are two outdoor pools one of which is on the roof and offers excellent views of the Cathedral and the old city walls.   HM Jaume III This hotel is well located about a ten minute walk from the cathedral and has many bars, restaurants and shops very near it. It was completely renovated in 2004 and this is reflected in the modern decoration and the spacious bedrooms each of which has a CD player (you need to bring your own CDs). The beds are large and very comfortable. There is a spa in the hotel with Turkish baths and sauna. The bus from the airport stops directly outside the hotel and costs only 2 Euros.   Ciutat Jardi Located 4 km from the centre of Palma this hotel receives rave reviews. It is set in lovely gardens and some rooms have direct access to them but better still are the "panoramic" rooms which have large terraces overlooking the Bay of Palma and the beach in front of the hotel. There are regular buses running into the city centre. This hotel is a perfect option for those wishing to combine a beach holiday with a city break.   Catalonia Majorica A small hotel located on the outskirts of Palma about a 35 minute walk from the city centre. It is up a hill but the advantage of this are the fantastic views that you get of the cathedral and the harbour where you can see many cruise ships coming and going. Taxis to the centre cost about 7 Euros or alternatively there are buses which go from nearby. The buffet breakfasts and dinners are of a very good quality and have plenty of variety. Bars prices are very reasonable. Do make sure you ask for a room with sea views when you book.

Palma 3 Star Hotels IBB Zurbaran Located in the suburbs of Palma up a bit of a hill this hotel provides good value for money. It doesn't have a pool but is near the beach. All of the rooms have balconies some with sea views and some overlooking the patio. In the evenings free coffee and pastries are available in the lobby area. The buffet breakfast has a very good selection of foods including cereals, cold meats and cheeses, pastries and sausages and eggs.   Almudaina Hotel This hotel is located in the centre of Palma in a perfect location for exploring the city and seeing the sights. The rooms at the front can be a bit noisy so it is a good idea to ask for a room at the back. On the 8th floor there is a large terrace with spectacular views of the Bay of Palma and the city and you can also use it for sunbathing.   Araxa Hotel This is a small family run hotel just out of the centre of the city. It is a clean and functional hotel but it does have a pool which provides a pleasant place to relax after sightseeing. The reception area and the bar have a very nice atmosphere and in winter they have a log fire in the bar. There is free wi-fi in this hotel.

Palma 2 Star Hotels Born This is a charming hotel housed in an old building at the top of The Born in Palma city centre in a perfect location for exploring the old part of the city. When booking be sure to ask for a room overlooking the courtyard as these are lovely and quiet whereas the others can be a bit noisy. Breakfast can be enjoyed in the patio and there are a wide range of food available. All in all good value for money in an excellent location.

Palma 1 Star Hotels Rosamar Hotel Located in the gay area of Palma this hotel is popular with both gay and straight people. It is a cheap and cheerful hotel and offers real value for money. Some of the rooms at the front of the hotel have balconies with sea views and it is worth requesting one of these.   Hotel Residencia Amic Colon This is a good budget option and is centrally located. It is a family run hotel and is very functional. Do not expect too much from it.
