Menorca Nightlife

The nightlife on the island of Menorca is mostly found in the local bars and night clubs which vary from small venues spilling out onto the pavement to large sophisticated establishments and many of these offer some kind of live entertainment.

As with several places in Europe the evening centres on your meal and only when the last mouthful of delicious dessert has been devoured, its time to move on to one of the many places you may choose to spend the rest of the evening.

For those who enjoy a relaxing drink, you may opt for a piano bar, where the music is in the background allowing you to chat amongst the company you are in. For a little more upbeat atmosphere, there are numerous bars, many of them English and quite contemporary.

The Akalarre Bar which is located on the harbour front in Mahon has live music entertainment and is well known for its range of fabulous cocktails. It's very laid back in style and is a super place for relaxing with friends. Live jazz and blues are big here on Thursdays and when everything stops downstairs, it starts upstairs in the disco and runs on well into the next day.

Open during the summer season only, Jazz Club San Climent is the islands oldest jazz venue and if this is your sort of music, you really should give it a try.

The Caves of Xoroi is a bar and disco and as you would expect from the name of the place it is set into caves high above the level of the sea. Located in Cala En Porter, the caves are open daily for drinks, but the real action starts late evening when the disco opens.

If a sports type bar is your favourite kind of venue, then you will not go far wrong by visiting Scandals. This bar has a full range of sport on TV and boasts full sized snooker and pool tables. It is also open during the day so you will not have to miss those all important football matches. Scandals is located in the area known as Es Castell close to Mahon.

Also located in Es Castell is ES Cau, a local music bar where guests are encouraged to take their own musical instruments with them and play to the audience. A good night is usually had by all.

If swinging to the beat salsa style is just the right kind of exercise for you then look no further than the Asere in Cuitadella. This stylish salsa club is open nightly throughout the summer months but only at weekends during the rest of the year.

Following on from these bars, you will find many discos, a great place to go for a boogie, which do not usually open until around 11pm but, just for you, they stay open until the early hours.

Of course, there is more to night life than simply drinking and chatting with friends. If you fancy it, you could try your luck in the casino. Although there is a good chance you may have a win and boost your holiday spending money, there is also the risk that you will leave the casino out of pocket, so it is wise to set yourself a limit of how much you are going to spend and do your best to stick to it. There is only one venue to choose from as far as casinos are concerned on the island of Menorca. It is very glamorous so remember to be dressed (and behave) accordingly!

Then, for those interested in taking in some culture a visit to the Teatro Principal, which first opened its doors nearly two centuries ago, is the ideal place to go. This venue serves as a popular spot for concerts and other cultural events but more often than not it is used as a cinema showing the latest movies.

One particular part of Menorcan nightlife which is bound to appeal to everyone is the extraordinary performance of the Club Escola Menorquina Show. This show consists of riders on traditional Andalucian horses which have been trained in a special way. It is a really super show for both adults and children and consistently proves to be a fun evening full of great entertainment. Children under twelve years of age are admitted free of charge so it does not have to be an expensive family evening out.
