Menorca Airport
The airport serving the Island or Menorca (also known as Minorca) is located
just three miles or five kilometres southwest of the capital city of Mahon.
It is easily accessible by road from Mahon by following the signs leading off
from the ME-12 and then taking the ME-14 directly to the airport. Coming in from
the opposite direction of Ciutadella, you should take the ME-1 which again leads
onto the ME-14. There are two car parks within the airport affording plenty of
space for you to leave your car. One of the car parks is long stay and has a
capacity for 250 cars whilst the other, short stay car park comfortably houses
495 vehicles.
If you do not have a car of your own and you would like to hire one for the
duration or part of your holiday, you can do this at the airport. It is an easy
procedure and there are several car hire companies to choose from. It is well
worth carrying out some research if you can before you arrive in the airport as
many of the car hire firms have special offers when you book early and you will
be able to take advantage of perks like free upgrades and not having to pay for
other names drivers if you look around before you sign on the dotted line. You
will simply leave your car at the airport when you have finished your holiday.
All you will need with you is your credit card or cash and your driving licence
and passport.
If you prefer to travel by bus, either because you are on a budget holiday or
simply because you prefer to take the scenic route and have the luxury of
someone else at the wheel, you will find the public transport between the
airport and the city of Mahon, both regular and clean. You can then choose which
bus to take from the city bus station to reach your desired destination.
If you would rather take a taxi you will find no shortage of cabs waiting at the
rank just outside the main doors of the airport. If required you can book your
taxi in advance and it will be waiting for you upon your arrival. Look for the
man or woman holding your name and holiday location up on a board in the
arrivals hall.
There is just one terminal at the airport and this is used for both arrivals
and departures. Within the terminal you will find an airport passenger
information desk on the first floor where you can make any enquiries about the
airport. You will find that there is usually an English speaking member of staff
on duty at the desk. There is also a tourist information desk on the ground
floor in the arrivals department. Here you can obtain lots of local information
about the resorts, how to get around the island and any details of special
events which are taking place during your stay.
There are places to eat and drink within the airport terminal, both airside and
landside so you will not go hungry or thirsty if you are waiting to meet someone
or experiencing delays in your homeward flight.
When you are leaving the island and have passed through the check in and the
customs area, you may like to spend some time buying those last minute presents
or mementos of your holiday in Menorca. You can browse around the duty free
shops and buy perfume, tobacco and all manner of other items, or even take a
look in the Divers shop, the local craft shop or pick out a few magazines to
read on the plane going home. No need to worry if you have run out of local
currency as there is a hole in the wall machine in the airport too.
Menorca airport is adapted to make things easier for the disabled. There are
specially designated parking spaces and adapted toilets within the airport.
There is a panoramic lift which provides access to the departure floor and
another lift which takes you directly to the restaurant which has ramps for
wheelchairs. The airport publish a leaflet which you can pick up at the
information desk and this describes the services relating to disability in both
print and Braille.
The lost luggage department and a Travel Agency are located within the terminal
building. At the present time there are no conference and business facilities
available at the airport, however, the Capri Hotel in Mahon, just three miles
down the road has everything you could need in this department.
