Sant Elm Tourist Information

In the late 1980s when I first discovered Sant Elm, or San Telmo as it was known in those days, I felt I was one of the privileged few to have discovered this gem on the Mallorca's south westerly tip.

Today it is well known amongst visitors and in spite of tourist developments there it has maintained the charm which takes me back there every time I'm on the island.

Arriving from the town of Andratx stop briefly for a look at the lovely little town of S'Arracó then enjoy the short winding road through beautiful countryside as you approach Sant Elm. Bear right as you enter the town then allow the the one way system to lead you to the top of the village where you can park in the street and walk down to the now (mainly) pedestrianised street through the centre of town.

Along the main street, C/ Jaume I, there are a small number of quaint eateries with tables outside. Restaurante Avenida is a popular choice with views over the main beach. For the best dining location continue west along this main street past the Hotel Dragonera until you reach Restaurante Na Caragola which has a lovely terrace overlooking the small island in the middle of the bay. They serve daily fresh fish specials.

Just below the terrace are three more restaurants side by side with great terraces over the sea and to the island of Dragonera further west. Paella and seafood dishes are most popular at Restaurante Vistamar which is the first of the three options. There are two more hotel options located on the main beach.

Sant Elm is a great base for walkers who arrive early in the morning to trek up to the nature reserve of La Trapa or to the Torre de Cala en Basset before returning to the village for lunch. It's possible to visit the island of Dragonera which resembles a sleeping dragon on a boat called the 'Margarita', you can then walk to the island's three lighthouses.
