Porto Colom Tourist Information
Porto Colom on Mallorca's south east coast is well worth a visit if you're in
the area. If you follow signs into town coming from the north you'll drive onto Cristobal Colon, a pleasant stretch of road with some lovely restaurants
overlooking a large bay area with a small port.
Continue further on for another kilometre and you'll reach the most commercial
part of town with numerous apartments for rent and the impressive Hotel El
Vistamar which offers great views across the bay to the old town.
A little
further south is Cala Marcal which is a beautiful sandy beach with glorious
clear water which is nicely sheltered by the rocky cove all the way around.
The original Porto Colom lies back on the other side of the main bay from here
near where you originally arrived in town. Just drive back in the direction of
Porto Cristo
turning right as you reach the end of the port. Here you'll find colourfully
painted houses that were originally the homes of local fishermen and the old
sandstone church of Sant Jaume I.
Porto Colom is not a large scale resort, in fact it's hardly a resort at all.
You're more likely to drop in for a look around whilst touring this stretch of
coast than you are to stay here but if you're looking for a place to chill out
for a few days it's well worth considering.
If you're looking for a round of golf whilst you're in the area then head for
Felanitx from Porto Colom then take the road for S'Horta. This will bring you to
the Vall D'Or golf course.
