Andratx Information
Port d'Andratx is a beautiful town surrounded by mountain scenery on the
south west tip of Mallorca. Its stylish marina contains many expensive yachts
whilst its working port in the heart of the town is home to more humble fishing
boats.
On arrival by car you should park at the free parking as you enter the town and
walk past the shopping centre to the street which runs alongside the waterfront
where the fishing boats are docked.
Along here you'll see the estate agents
promoting the expensive properties available in this exclusive location and
numerous shops, cafés and restaurants. Bar Central with its terrace on the
pavement overlooking the bay is a nice spot for a coffee break.
Continue a little further along Avda. Mateo Bosch and you'll come to Tim's Bar
which has a similar terrace and is a great spot for cocktails as the sun goes
down in the distance. For dinner you can't go wrong at one of about a dozen
terrace restaurants that set up on the waterfront. Portobello serves up some
good Mallorcan dishes whilst Mar Blau at number 24 specialises in exquisite
seafood. Just take a look at each of their menus as you stroll along before
making your selection.
The main activity on offer from Port d'Andratx is scuba diving with several Padi
centres offering excursions from the port. Golf de Andratx is a fabulous course
at nearby Camp de Mar.
Just a couple of kilometres inland is the town of Andratx which is well worth a
visit to see the 13th church of Santa Maria d'Andratx which is only open on
Sunday, Monday and Wednesday mornings. A good plan is to head there on a
Wednesday and tie it in with a visit to the weekly market which takes place in
the area surrounding the Paseo de Son Mos. The helpful Andratx tourist
information office is inside the beautiful castle of Son Mos which is also worth
a visit.
There are some great short excursions which can include the town of Andratx. To
the west you can head for the beautiful little town of S'Arracó then continue on
to Sant Elm
on the coast which is a great place for lunch at one of the terrace restaurants
overlooking the bay. To truly discover the countryside of Mallorca you should
head out of Andratx to the north and visit such charming villages as Es Capdella,
Galilea, Puigpunyent and Calvia or else take an extensive drive covering more of
the Serra de Tramuntana which makes up the north west coast of Mallorca.
