Lisbon Hotels
Finding a place to stay in Lisbon is not at all difficult, but there are
several things to consider when choosing a hotel.
Lisbon is a very diverse city and the different districts have different
things to offer, so you should strategize to find a good hotel near where you
need to be that best fits your budget.
For example, if you wish to get a good history lesson about Portugal's Age of
Discoveries, it might seem like the best idea is to stay in Belém, where all the
important monuments can be found, although you don't have a wide selection of
hotels here, and most of them are pricey, being in the €125 to €185 per night
range.
Please note that hotel prices vary at an alarming rate so although the prices
mentioned here are correct at the time of writing but serve merely as a general
guide. You'll find correct prices for your visit by searching the hotel finder
in the right column.
Some recommended hotels in Belém:
- Hotel Vila Galé Ópera - 4 star, €130/night
- Hotel Pestana Palace - 5 star, €185/night
Most tourists staying in Lisbon would opt to find a hotel in Bairro Alto,
because of its very robust club scene and nightlife and the relatively
affordable room rates, going at €81 to €180, with many hotels lowering
promotional rates to €60, every now and then. However, if you’re an early or
light sleeper, Bairro Alto might not be a great idea, because the noise and
revelry generally goes on until the sun rises. If you come to Lisbon without
booking a hotel at least a week in advance, note that it is hardest to find a
room in Bairro Alto, and you will have better luck in less busy areas.
Some recommended hotels in Bairro Alto:
- Hotel Jorge V – 3 star, €55/night on promo
- Hotel Aviz - 4 star, €100/night
- Hotel Marquês de Pombal - 4 star, €112/night
The Saldanha area, and nearby São Sebastião, features a good range of affordable
hotels, ranging from €70 to €150. Although it's not very near the historical
sites, other districts are easy to access with the Saldanha underground station.
For sightseeing and culture, there is the Gulbenkian Museum and there are a good
range of restaurants and shops in this prestigious business and residential
district.

Pombaline Baixa, or Baixa for short, which is downtown Lisbon, is the most
elegant and well-structured part of Lisbon, with almost all its buildings
reconstructed after the 1755 earthquake and now virtually unshakeable.
Accordingly, it is also the most expensive place to stay in Lisbon, with 2-star
hotels charging €80 per night, and rooms in higher end hotels ranging from €100
to €200, The neighborhood and buildings here, as well in nearby Alfama, are some

Some Lisbon visitors may find themselves away from the city center for several
reasons – they might have business to attend to in Estefânia or Campo Pequeno,
or are purposely in Portugal to visit the entertainment centers in the Parque
das Nações. There's no need to look for lodgings away from these areas, there
are recommended hotels in Estefânia and Campo Pequeno, with room prices ranging
from €80 to €120 per night.
Meanwhile, the hotels in Parque das Nações, being so few and far away from
the city center, are all within the same price range. Many say that these zones
are very convenient because they are the closest to the Lisbon airport. Still,
any place in Lisbon is only 20 to 30 minutes away from the airport, and visitors
need not worry about waking up very early to catch their flights.
