Costa Teguise Lanzarote
Costa Teguise is the third most popular holiday resort of the Island of
Lanzarote. It is situated on the east coast just a little more northwards than
Arrecife.
The name Costa Teguise is derived from the inland village of Teguise which was
once the islands capital city. Prior to the development of Costa Teguise, there
were no buildings in this area, just beaches.
The resort itself is the most recently constructed of the three main tourist
areas and was purposely built for that reason – to accommodate tourists.
Initially the whole resort was owned by the company of the Spanish family who
built it but in recent years parts of Costa Teguise have been sold off following
privatisation of the company.
There are two beaches at Costa Teguise. The Playa Bastian is a beautiful golden
sand beach and is the ideal setting to catch a few rays whilst relaxing in this
quieter area of the resort. The main beach is Las Cucharus and is an absolute
dream for anyone who wants to windsurf during their stay on the island as it is
the main windsurfing spot of the island. There are also several dive schools in
the area if you would like to try diving. The sands are white and the waters are
crystal clear, making it a perfect beach to relax and extremely safe for those
who want to swim or snorkel.
The resort of Costa Teguise offers an excellent standard of accommodation, with
several four and five star hotels. There are also many studios, apartments, and
luxury villas, so plenty to suit every taste and budget.
If you have opted for self catering accommodation but have no intention of
cooking for yourself, you will not be disappointed with the wide range of tasty
delights available for you to try in Costa Teguise. With restaurants offering
Chinese, English, Swiss, and Indian food, along with traditionally Spanish tapas
there is sure to be something to tickle your taste buds. The fish restaurants
here in Teguise are superb, so if you are a fish and seafood lover, why not pop
down to Aulaga Restaurant in the Bastian beach area. They serve children's
meals, a vegetarian choice and you can even get a take away if you prefer to eat
at home.
The nightlife in this resort is not as busy as that of Puerto Del Carmen,
probably what you would consider to be more family orientated, with lots of TV
bars, although there are a few open 'til late watering holes. However, if
clubbing is your thing, you need only jump in a taxi to Puerto Del Carmen, and
within fifteen to twenty minutes you can enjoy all the nightlife you could
possibly wish for.
There are plenty of things to do whilst staying in Costa Teguise. There are many
shops where you can pick up souvenirs of your holiday and each Friday there is a
street market where the locals sell their crafts. This is extremely colourful
and there is usually a good mix of different nationalities attending. It is an
evening market, starting at around 6pm and closing when everyone has finished
shopping.
There is an Aqua Park just 2km from the resort, which is the only one on the
island. It has recently been renovated and now includes many exciting water
chutes and flumes and a heated swimming pool. It is open every day between 10am
and 6pm and is a fabulous day out for all the family.
For golf lovers, why not hire some clubs (if you have not got your own with you)
and head off down to the eighteen hole golf course located at Costa Teguise. You
will find yourself stopping to admire the spectacular scenery as the course is
set amidst a sea of stunning green grass and palm trees.
