Lanzarote Airport
The airport on the island of Lanzarote is known locally as Guacimeta and
internationally as Arrecife Airport (ACE). It is located midway between the
holiday resort area of Puerto Del Carmen and the capital town of Arrecife which
is around three miles away.
It is a busy airport where both chartered and scheduled flights arrive from and
take off to places all over Europe and the airport also serves internal flights
between the other Canary Islands. Although there are flights on all days of the
week, the main day for the arrival and departure of tourists is Thursday.
The airport has its own webpage, so if you need to check out live flight
information for departures and arrivals, you will find everything you need at
www.aena.es which is the website for many Spanish airports. Even if you do not
have the full flight details, say, only the estimated time of arrival, this will
be sufficient for you to search, in English or Spanish and find what you are
looking for.
There are two terminals at the airport. Terminal One is the newest and is used
for international flights covering two floors, downstairs for arrivals and
upstairs for departures. The original terminal building has now been fully
refurbished and is where the national and inter-island flights land and take
off.
Naturally, with one brand new terminal and one fully refurbished, the facilities
offered within the airport building are no less than you would expect of an
international airport.
There are several eateries by way of cafes, restaurants and fast food services
and some of these have both indoor and outdoor seating areas.
Once you have checked in and passed through into the departure lounge, should
you wish to do some last minute shopping, there is a range of shops where you
can buy yourself something nice, clothes, jewellery or locally produced
craftwork. Don't worry if you have no local currency as there are several cash
machines for you to use and a currency exchange service too.
Car parking at the airport is straightforward and inexpensive. You are not
charged for the first half hour of your stay and if you go over half an hour it
is only cents per hour, not euros. The airport car park has 1250 spaces, some of
which are designated for disabled travellers. There are ramps, wide doors,
adapted toilet facilities and also specially designed waiting areas for
passengers in wheelchairs. If you do not want to take your own wheelchair on
holiday with you, many of the airlines will supply one for you if you discuss
this at the time of making your booking.
The airport provides an information centre for visitors to the airport and the
staff there will be pleased to help you with any enquiries you may have. There
is usually a member of staff on duty who speaks fluent English.
The VIP lounge within the airport has business facilities such as telephones and
Internet services. If you need to use a fax or to photocopy something this
service is available at the lottery outlet.
There are no left luggage facilities within the airport. However, should you
have "accidentally left" something somewhere in the terminal there is a lost
luggage department where belongings are regularly handed in. There is also a
chemist, a travel agency and a first aid area at the airport.
If you plan to use public transport there is a bus station and taxi rank at the
airport. There are also several car hire company representatives on hand if you
wish to hire a car. You will find the road signposts both too and from the
airport, clear and easy to understand.
