Santa Eulalia Ibiza
Santa Eulalia is Ibiza's third largest resort which has long been established
as a popular family holiday destination on Ibiza's east coast. Although geared
to family holidays it has developed a lively nightlife scene in recent times and
is considered one of the best places on the island for good restaurants with
both national and international cuisine to satisfy everyone's taste buds.
The main attraction of Santa Eulalia is its long sandy beach which is very child
friendly and offers excellent watersports facilities. Running alongside it is a
fine promenade promenade which stretches the whole 300m of the beach. This whole
promenade is lined with hotels, apartments and beach food restaurants. At the
end look out for the beautiful Mariner's Beach where the promenade meets the
only river in the Baleares. From here you can take a stroll along the river as
far as an ancient Roman bridge and to the lovely beach of Calo De S'Alga. There
are many fine beaches nearby which are easily accessible by bus and boat
services. Es Cana and Cala Llonga are popular little resorts with nice beaches
whilst S'Aigua Blanca on the northern headland is possibly the most beautiful
beach in the area
Carrer de Sant Jaume is the main road through Santa Eulalia which is lined
with eateries and souvenir shops. For better quality cafés and restaurants head
for Carrer de Sant Vicent which is closed to traffic in the evenings and is an
idyllic location to dine outdoors. Top restaurants in town include El Naranjo
(Carrer de Sant Josep, 31) which is a fine choice where exquisite seafood dishes
are served on their orange tree veranda. Dońa Margarita Puerto, down by the
marina, is another fine choice for excellent Mediterranean cuisine. For
something simpler, the Royalty restaurant on Sant Jaume is good spot for cheap
eats in the town centre from where you can watch the world go by from the
outdoor terrace. Curry addicts must head out to the excellent Cardamom Cafe
which is housed in a traditional 15th farmhouse with outside tables set in
beautiful gardens.
In terms of nightlife Santa Eulala has something to suit all tastes. Until a few
years ago quiet drinks at English-style pubs were the rule. However, the opening
of the Guarana music bar down by the marina has transformed the resort's
nightlife. The English pubs are still there but now you can also enjoy a night
of hot dancing and music just as easily in Santa Eulalia as you can in San
Antonio. If you want to head out to some of the island's better known night
spots then take the Discobus which provides transport from Santa Eulalia to the
Amnesia and Privilege clubs.
For a scenic two hour tour of Santa Eulalia and the surrounding countryside
jump aboard the
Santa Eulalia Express which departs daily from outside the Town Hall. The
Ibiza Express is another little road train which offers trips around the
beautiful countryside of northern Ibiza. Ferry journeys to Ibiza Town from Santa
Eulalia harbour (45 minutes) are also extremely popular as are day trips across
to the neighbouring island of Formentera. The nearby "hippy market" takes place
every Wednesday attracting holidaymakers from all over the island.
