Portinatx Ibiza
Whether you're tired of the raucous partying offered in San Antonio or you're
looking for the ideal holiday getaway for your family, Portinatx has everything
you're looking for and more. Hidden on the northernmost tip of Ibiza, Portinatx
is a small resort town that shields you from the bustle of the rest of the
island while still providing enough entertainment to keep you entertained.
Portinatx is blessed with three beautiful sandy beaches that are ideal for
snorkeling, diving and swimming. S'Arenal Gross and S'Arenal Petite are both
great sandy beaches to bring your family to take advantage of the sunny weather
and enjoy the surf. For renowned snorkeling conditions head to Cala Xarraca, a
more pebbly area, or even Cala d'en Serra which you can find by following the
coast east up a rather primitive road. Cala d'en Serra is worth the trip
however, as it rewards you for the rough road with a scenic beauty that is
exceptional even by Ibiza standards.
If your family is interested in hiking trips, Portinatx should definitely be
your holiday destination. This small resort acts as a great base from where to
hike up and down the coast where you can enjoy a wide variety of terrain from
cliffs to beach. The truly adventurous can walk the 10 kilometres from Portinatx
to Punta de Xarraca, a hike over rocky terrain known to be one of the most
difficult treks on the island. If this all sounds too exhausting then take one
of the glass bottom boat rides which are available from nearly every port
instead. With the exceptional clarity of the water you'll be able to see the
wide variety of marine life without even having to get wet.
When you get hungry after all the hiking and snorkeling you've been doing
you'll be ready for the restaurants of Portinatx which are well-known for their
variety of fresh fish. If you are near the beach head for Es Puet Blanc with its
open-air terrace and famous variety of fruit sundaes and cream cakes. Also make
sure that you visit Cas Mallorqui and enjoy both beautiful views of the beach
and the fresh Mediterranean fish dishes.
In terms of shopping make sure you're there for the open-air market that takes
place every Sunday. You can find a wonderful selection of leather, pottery and
jewellery available as well as more artistic offerings.
Self catering apartments provide most of the accommodation in this tiny resort
but worth a special mention is the family orientated Hotel El Greco which has
its own waterpark, not to mention buffet style meals with Italian and Chinese
nights. For more intimate accommodation take a look at the Portinatx Apartments
which feature a pool, nearby beach access and a little more privacy.
If you're looking to get your family away from it all then Portinatx is well
worth considering. If, however, you've decided to stay in san Antonio with the
Ibiza party people then consider a day excursion by boat that goes around the
northern headland of the island providing stunning views of the coastal scenery
around Portinatx.
