Volvo Masters
The Volvo Masters is the final event of the European Tour season. The top 60
leading money winners on the European Tour come together to compete in this
prestigious event on mainland Europe's premier golf course.
Started in 1988 it has been held at Valderrama Golf Club every year
except between 1997 and 2001. The beautiful yet challenging nature of this
course provides a real test for the players who qualify entirely on merit.
Its name was changed briefly from 2001 till 2003 from Volvo Masters to Volvo
Masters Andalucia but then returned to its original name in 2004.
The Volvo Masters always takes place one week before the Tour Championship of
the PGA Tour so that golfers who belong to both the PGA Tour and the European
Tour can participate.
The 2006 Volvo Masters takes place from 26th to 29th October with
Paul McGinley defending his title which, until now, no player has ever succeeded
in doing.
