Cordoba City Breaks
In the 11th century Cordoba was one of the most important capitals in Europe.
People of the most different cultures and religions - Jews, Muslims and
Christians - were living peacefully together, and important philosophers,
scientists and artists emerged from the city
Today Cordoba's principal attraction is the 1200 year old Mezquita, the
Moorish Mosque, which is undoubtedly one of the world's great
buildings. As a typical Andaluz city, it has a strong tradition of flamenco,
bullfighting and old taverns where the people enjoy their tapas and local
sherries. As you wander the myriad of tiny lanes and marvel at the beautiful
flower covered patios you will fall under Cordoba's spell.
Suggested Itinerary:
Below is a very basic idea of what you might do on a simple two night stay in
Cordoba.
Day 1
By plane you can fly to Madrid then take an internal flight to Cordoba.
Alternatives are Seville (1˝ hours by road) and Malaga (2˝ hours by road) or you
could take the high speed AVE train down from Madrid. On arrival if you need to
unwind after your journey there's a new Arab Baths where you can go and enjoy a
fine massage.
In the evening you should go for dinner at 'El Caballo Rojo' where typical
Cordobés cuisine with its Moorish influence is the speciality of the house.
Favourites include cordero a la miel (lamb cooked in honey) and rabo de toro
(oxtail). Alternatively, check out one of our other recommended
Cordoba restaurants.
Day 2
After breakfast you should head over to the Mezquita and spend the
morning marvelling at one of the great Islamic buildings. If you prefer, we can
arrange for a fully guided tour of the Mosque with an expert guide.
Cordoba has some excellent tapas bars which are frequented by locals and often
missed by visitors so have lunch at one or several of them. In the evening you might like to attend a
flamenco performance.
Day 3
Head back home via Madrid, Malaga or Seville.
