Almunecar Tapas Bars
I'll suggest a few Almunecar tapas bars (and general bars) in two sections.
The first section refers to ones located close to the house which you'll be able
to walk to. The 2nd section recommends a few bars around the town centre. No
doubt you'll discover your own favourites which I hope you'll tell us about.

Almunecar House for Rent
Three bedroom house for rent with sea views from the roof terrace. 5 minute walk to beach & restaurants. |
Malaga Airport Car Hire
If you're driving to Almunecar you'll find great car rental deals with Economy Car Hire at Malaga Airport. |
Almunecar Tapas Bars in Walking Distance of the House in Taramay
El Kiosko de Santi As you start walking down the hill
towards Tesorillo beach take the steps next to the roundabout and walk down to
the little kiosk bar on your right. This is run by Santi and his family. No
English is spoken but the menu is in English so you'll manage. Great spot for a
selection of tapas or for the daily menu or just to sit at the bar with the
locals enjoying an ice cold beer. The little shop next door (Juanitas) is handy
for picking up any shopping that you've forgotten. She usually opens in the
afternoon during the summer months but check her opening times on the note she
puts on the door.
Parque Pozuelo When you get to the
bottom of the hill you come to the lush vegetation of the Pozuelo Park. In the
middle is a little kiosk bar which serves a nice selection of tapas as well as
usually giving you a good tapa with each drink you order.
Iguana
Playa Playa del Pozuelo Tel: 958 880014 This is a great place
for a drink with the best sea views around. They have a good selection of
cocktails, wines and beers and Sky TV on their giant screen inside when there
are any big sports events. Not a place for tapas though they have a nice A La
Carte menu and special Greek and French nights as mentioned in our Almunecar
restaurants section. You may well find that this becomes your daily local during
your stay.
Alhamar Paseo Velilla, 47 Tel: 958
880762 Walking along the seafront towards town and you'll soon see
Bar/Restaurante Alhamar set back on your right. This is very much a place
frequented by locals where you can sit at their outside terrace with a cold
drink and choose from a good selection of popular Spanish tapas as well as main
meals.
Rincon de Velilla Paseo de Velilla,
Edificio Intiyan, 6 Tel: 958 631387 Good bar to meet resident north
Europeans as well as a fair few local people. Rincón has become well known for
its "Happy Hour" from 7pm to 8pm when all drinks are two for the price of one.
After 8pm normal service is resumed and excellent tapas are normally served with
their very good value drinks. There's also a full scale restaurant inside.
Danny's Bar & Grill Playa Velilla Tel: 958 639387
If you're looking for some home comforts head further along the Playa de Velilla
road towards town until you reach Danny's. The bar is run by Paul & Judy from
Stoke (Danny's their dog!) who welcome a large number of ex-pats and
holidaymakers to their cosy bar. Paul cooks great food including superb roast
lamb dinners on Sundays (bookings are recommended). Another good place for
English football and look out for the live music on Fridays and Paul's
occasional curry night buffets that are always a sell out.
Almunecar Tapas Bars in or Near the Town Centre
La China Paseo de Cotobro Tel: 958 634856 This is
probably the best place in Almunecar for free tapas. It's hidden away along
Playa San Cristobal below a residential block not far beyond past JR's
restaurant. Substantial free tapas just keep coming with every drink. Don't eat
before you go there as Luis takes great pleaure in filling you with huge
portions of tortilla, carne en salsa and meatballs to name but a few. They put
the majority of self-proclaimed local tapas bars to shame. Nearly always packed.
El Meson Plaza Constitución Tel: 958 639044 In the
corner of the town's main square next to the town hall building this traditional
bar is a great spot for tapas. Inside you can watch the fabulous grilled meat
kebabs being prepared on the open wood fire. There's a nice terrace in the
square in case it's too hot inside.
Bodega Francisco
Calle Real 15 Walking through the tiny streets of the old town towards the
town hall square you'll stumble on this typical old cellar type bar. Behind the
bar are wooden sherry barrels and the walls are covered with bullfight posters
and work by local artists. An atmospheric locale with a fair selection of tapas
on the menu and a good spot to sample some local wines.
Cafe Bar
Ayer Edificio Victoria 1 Playa Puerta Del Mar Web:
www.cafebarayer.com/ Steve and Tracy have worked hard to establish this
lovely cafe right on the seafront in the town centre. It is particularly popular
as breakfast destination thanks to their great coffees, cakes and sandwiches.
You can also enjoy a tapas platter on their outside terrace with a nice, cold
beer. They close on Sundays.
Lute et Jesus Bar
Avenida (Lute y Jesús) Avenida de Europa Lute y Jesus is about two thirds
of the way up the Avenida de Europa from the sea and this bar is busy from
morning to late at night. The service is good and the food excellent. The menu
del dia is not available all day and most of the tables are given over to meals
in the evening. Through the day the tapas are excellent and the fried fish is
recommended but you may have to wait for a table as this is a very popular
place.
El Faro Plaza de los Magnolios Tel: 958
633198 Just off Avenida Andalucía in the town centre next to the Stylo video
shop is Almunecar's main English pub. Friendly meeting place for local ex-pats
and tourists offering some great daily specials on British pub food, reasonable
drink prices and several screens showing Sky TV.
Mesón Mari y
Miguel Avenida de Andalucia, 18 Tel: 958 883940 Very popular
tapas bar/restaurant in the town centre which mainly attracts locals who know
about Miguel's legendary grilled meats cooked on a wood fire barbecue.
Plaza Kelibia at Weekends
A general area in the old town which is fairly good for tapas is Plaza
Kelibia which is surrounded by bars with open air terraces. A popular bar snack
in these parts is known as a 'Rosca'. This is a circular piece of bread which is
cut in half then filled with a selection of your choice such as cheese, ham and
tomato and is then toasted. Smaller roscas often come free with drinks in the
Kelibia bars.
